May 14, 2019Houston, TX – A crowd of approximately 200 people from Houston Area Auto Body Shops,  Collision Industry Vendors, and auto body technicians attended the Houston Auto Body Association (HABA) 10th Annual Collision Industry Appreciation event at Jackson Street BBQ.  The attendees enjoyed “the best BBQ that Texas has to offer” along with numerous door prizes. Representatives from I-CAR were also in attendance. A brief business meeting was also held to update the attendees on accomplishments HABA has made since the last membership meeting in 2018. Growing the membership of the association was one of the topics, along with legislative issues in Austin including the Texas Department of Insurance.

John Kopriva, President of HABA, presented Larry Cernosek from Deer Park Paint & Body with the coveted “President’s Award.” According to Kopriva, “Larry worked tireless hours helping to prepare for House Bill 1348 and organizing Collision Day at the Capital to support and advance the bill knowns as the Auto Body Insurance Accountability Bill.”

Fabulous door prizes included a 65″ Samsun Smart TV, a guided fishing trip by Bolivar Guide Service that included an overnight stay at West Bay Lodging donated by Jimmy West, a golf bag, Two Yeti Coolers, a crawfish cooker, and a sports watch.

A special live auction raffle prize was donated by Darrell Dobbs from Scott Street Auto Parts, it included a bottle of Crown Royal Whiskey in its original blue and gold braided bag that was stuffed with an undisclosed amount of money, “no less than 20’s and no more than $100 bills.” Tasco Auto Color placed the winning bid for the bag – and then donated the money back to the Houston Auto Body Association! PPG Automotive Refinish then matched their donation  – Thank you Tasco Auto Color and PPG Automotive Refinish!

The HABA Board will be meeting in the coming weeks to plan the training calendar for the remainder of 2019, and to set a date for the HABA Annual Fall Conference which has featured high-power speakers like Mike Anderson and Tim Ronak in the past.  HABA thanks all the collision centers, technicians, vendors and sponsors who attended the event.
